Natalee Hallgren of Tecoma, near East London, says this dish is a hit when her family have friends over for a braai.
Serves 2 as a main course or 6 as a side dish Preparation time: 10 min Cooking time: 20 min
- 20 ml (4 t) olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 can (410 g) tomato and onion mix
- 1 small green pepper, finely chopped
- salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 30 ml (2 T) chutney
- 12 large brown mushrooms (stems removed), wiped clean with paper towels
- 100 ml grated mature Cheddar cheese
Preheat the oven to 180 °c. Line a baking sheet with foil or baking paper.
Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry the garlic for 1 minute.
Add the tomato and onion mix and green pepper and simmer until thick and fragrant.
Season with salt and pepper and add the chutney.
Put the mushrooms on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon the sauce over the mushrooms and bake them for 15 minutes.
Scatter the cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes or until the cheese melts.
